Meet Our Staff

REV. ISABEL RIVERA-VELEZ, Stated Supply Pastor

Isabel and her five siblings were raised on Galveston Island. As soon as she was able, she moved to Webster, Texas. After 25 years of service at Union Carbide Corp., Isabel retired and immediately began her initial four years of service as a Lay Pastor at her own home church, which is Emmanuel Presbyterian Church of Galveston.

When God called her to study at Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Isabel needed our Presbytery’s permission to study and remain under our Presbytery’s care until graduation. The Presbytery considered that her years of service in the life of her church as Treasurer (10 years), Ruling Elder since the age of 19, church pianist and organist (30 years) and Commission Lay Pastor (4 years) were sufficient to affirm the Lord’s call on her life.

Pastor Isabel was installed and ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament in January of 2011. Her first pastorate was for 3 years at Juan Marcos Presbyterian Church, and 6.5 years at Iglesia Latina, which was duly chartered under her leadership in 2016.

Isabel’s first language was Spanish as a child. However, due to strict rules prohibiting Spanish-speaking children to pass from one grade to the next without first learning English, the Spanish she knew was buried somewhere in the back of her brain. Throughout the years, Isabel had lost out on opportunities to speak, teach and preach in Spanish. However, after spending time with a Spanish-speaking colleague at Austin Seminary and at both of the churches she has served since ordination, her Spanish has miraculously emerged and has improved considerably. She now considers herself to be fully bilingual.

Isabel has a son named Steven Ruiz who lives in League City. Her husband, Hector Rivera-Velez, has a son and a daughter who live in San Antonio.

Ruby Orozco, Administrative Assistant

As a fellow Baytownian, born and raised, I now have my own family here, including: my husband Javier, boy/girl twins Tomas and Sarai, and my youngest daughter Ana. My journey entails graduating from Robert E Lee High School and University of Houston Downtown with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and minor in math. After graduating I worked with Continental Airlines, later turned into United Airlines, in various IT roles where I remained for 14 years. My roles were technical, but also included working with business as liaison on new projects and upgrading existing ones. I give glory to God for his blessings. Being born within a Christian family has taught me to always be thankful, for He is in control. I am currently a member of Elohim Templo Cristiano Evangélico, where I have attended since I was a small child. There I am now part of a group of ladies that rotate in leading worship. I don’t have much spare time, as my kids keep me busy with school and sports since my twins both play golf and my youngest plays school volleyball and club soccer, but I love all of it. Above all, I put God first, as he is my rock, and he will guide through what may come my way… my favorite verse: Psalm 31:3.

ELLA RAE STOVALL, Organist

Ella Rae believes the most important thing an organist can do is lead the congregation in singing praise to God.  She tries to select preludes to help worshippers set aside the worries of life to focus on our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ. The prelude is sometimes meditative and sometimes joyful praise.

Ella Rae began playing for church services at age 11. She trained as a church organist by earning both a diploma of Sacred Music (Moody Bible Institute) and a Service Playing certificate (American Guild of Organists). She has a Master of Music degree, majoring in piano from the American Conservatory of Music.

She teaches piano, and her husband, Jim teaches voice. They have two sons.

LAY CHAPLAINS

Community of Hope Lay Chaplains at Faith Presbyterian Church are commissioned on a yearly basis to extend the reach of our pastoral care ministry.  They visit, send cards, make phone calls, and take communion to our shut-ins.  The Community of Hope Lay Chaplains remain united in prayer and community as this ministry leads them to serve in the congregation and in the wider community.

Two Lay Chaplains are on call for a calendar week. See the current Sunday Bulletin or call the church office to contact the chaplain(s) on duty.
